Primary ICT Subject Leaders' Meeting - June 21st 2012

The third and final Primary ICT Subject Leaders' Meeting of the academic year will be held on Thursday 21st June 2012. The meeting will be hosted by the Education Department at the University of the West of England due to ongoing building work at Orchard Secondary School. I would like to thank Dr Helen Holman (headteacher, Orchard Secondary School) for continuing to support the network meetings and helping us search for a suitable alternative venue. I would also like to thank Jane Carter (Senior Lecturer, UWE) for allowing us to host the meeting at the University of the West of England.

During the network meeting we will be joined for part of the day by UWE students attending a 'Becoming an NQT' Day. This will be an excellent opportunity for the UWE students to see how the ICT Subject Leaders' role works. I am also hoping that they will be able to share their thoughts on how ICT can be used to raise standards in teaching and learning.

The agenda for the day reflects feedback from questionnaires completed at the end of the last network meeting. One of the many successes from the last meeting included the sharing of best practice by subject leaders. Building on this success, I have invited members of the North Bristol ICT Partnership to make a short presentation on their ICT action research projects. We will also be hearing from Stuart Dyer on how he introduced Blogging at Elmlea Junior School. If you would like to make a short presentation to the group (5-10 minutes) then please complete the on-line registration form at the bottom of this post. Only registered speakers will be able to present to the group due to the popularity of this section of the day. A Promethean whiteboard, computer and internet connection will be available.

South Bristol eLearning Partnership

I recently had a meeting with Catherine Cains  (eLearning Partnership Coordinator)  at  the South Bristol eLearning Partnership. During the meeting Catherine told me about the exciting projects that her team had been involved in this year. Whilst most of the team's work had been supporting the 13 primary schools and 2 secondary schools in the partnership, there had also been some very special events including a visit from Tim Rylands.  BITES - Bristol I.T Education show is the latest event open for everyone to attend. The BITES event will be hosted by Brislington Enterprise College  on 29th May 2012. After the all day event there will be a Teechmeet running from 4pm - 6pm.
